If my research on Emma Carolyn Macy is correct...she was a distant cousin to Benjamin Franklin.
Emma Carolyn Macy
The following must have been written on the occasion of her death by a member of her family.
On July 7, 1851 Emma Carolyn Macy was born near Jacksonburg(Ohio). It was there she spent her happy childhood and days of early youth. In 1866 she was united in marriage to George W. Howard, then came to Preble County (Ohio). Their home was blessed with 3 daughters and 12 sons. They moved about until by the success of their honest and courageous toil they located in a home of their own on the county line east of Gratis (Ohio).
They labored hard and earnestly against many adversities, endeavoring to rear their children to virtuous manhood and womanhood. Sorrow entered into the home and one daughter and 3 sons were called into eternity. In the year of 1884, this Mother with her companion, united with the Church of the Brethren, where she had continued a faithful, earnest servant of her Master.
The years sped swiftly and it seemed only a short span of time until Mother and Father Howard realized their physical inability to continue the toils and cares of their country home, all the children having married and gone.
It was then they moved to Germantown (Ohio) and lived until 1923, when their home was broken by the departing of the father.
Mother still remained in her home until finally her physical condition forced her to leave it.
About 2 years later (1925) she entered the Church of the Brethren Home at Greenville (Ohio). She greatly appreciated and enjoyed her home there and the splendid care given her. She had been in failing health for several years and about 2 weeks ago she fell and suffered a very painful injury having fractured her hip. On last Thursday morning she became still more critical, her heart becoming weakened and on Friday morning, October 28, 1932 she quietly passed from this life.
The family circle again has been broken. Mother has been called away and we are parting with our dearest earthly friend. We know her life has been well spent. She has labored hard and earnestly as long as strength would permit.
She put faith and trust in her Heavenly Father throughout her life. Although we will hear her speak no more, we will remember the splendid lessons and examples she has left, by her enduring courage, loyalty and toils. We feel that we can truly give her that finest of all tributes and praise: "She has done her best" in her 81 years of life.
Through the toils and cares, through the joy and sorrow, through the victories and defeats of this life she has continued true and loyal to her family and her Lord.
She leaves 2 daughters and 9 sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren and many friends. Although we are saddened by her going, we feel that our loss is her eternal gain.
